Islam y Cristianismo

Juan 3:16

Hechos 4:12

Espera Un Milagro,
Pastor Jubal García

Islam & Christianity

IMG_5172
Many people have asked me what my thoughts were on the President’s remarks last week at the National Prayer Breakfast. As someone who attended the breakfast last week I’m not speaking from a perspective of hearing a sound bite from a news report, I’m speaking from someone who has a broader view of the entire event.

Let me begin by noting some important things about the National Prayer Breakfast:

• The NPB began when a few republicans and democrats who were Christians decided that once a week they would come together to pray, study the word for one hour.

• They were to leave their political offiliations and disagreements outside the door and focus on seeking God for our leaders and country.

• These leaders took turns every week. One week a democrat would share from the Bible, the next week a Republican would share from the Bible.

• President Eisenhower caught wind of this event and wanted to join. The rest is history. It has become a national event where countries & religions from all over the world come together for 3 days of prayer.

• Every President since Eisenhower has attended the NPB.

• The main focus of the NPB centrals around JESUS CHRIST and JESUS CHRIST ALONE. Every singer, entertainer and keynote speaker will be one who glorifies and honors Jesus Christ!

Now, let’s get to the President’s remarks. On Thursday, February 5, President Obama made the following remarks:

“There is a tendency in us, a sinful tendency, that can pervert and distort our faith.” And that there will always be people willing to “hijack religion for their own murderous ends.” So we shouldn’t “get on our high horse and think this is unique to some other place—remember that during the Crusades and the Inquisition, people committed terrible deeds in the name of Christ.”

Now before I give you my opinion let me educate you on some interesting facts:

• President Obama is right! Many evil things were done and have been done in the name of Christ!

• However, the individuals that did these evil things in the name of Jesus did them in contradiction to what Jesus Christ taught!

• These people “hijacked” Christianity by using the name “Christians” to go against God’s word and fulfill their agenda to hurt and kill people.

To compare the crusades to what is happening today with these Islamic terrorist groups is ridiculous, not to mention, completely wrong.

Here’s where we have to understand where Christianity and Islam differ:

• Islam is not being hijacked by anyone.

• The violence and evil that is being done by these terrorists is actually in obedience to the Qur’an and the teachings of Muhammad.

Let’s review some verses from the Qur’an itself:

SURA chapter 8 (my emphasis added)

[8:12] Recall that your Lord inspired the angels: “I am with you; so support those who believed. I will throw terror into the hearts of those who disbelieved. You may strike them above the necks, and you may strike even every finger.”

• Here you have a direct order to “strike above the necks” – this is a clear command to engage in violence to those who don’t “believe” as Islam does.

[8:13] This is what they have justly incurred by fighting GOD and His messenger. For those who fight against GOD and His messenger, GOD’s retribution is severe.

• And now it’s taught that if you disagree with Islam then you’ll be punished, and in that punishment if you are killed, beaten or tortured it’s YOUR FAULT.

• After all, “Islam” means “submission” and if you don’t submit to its teachings, you should be punished, right?

[8:14] This is to punish the disbelievers; they have incurred the retribution of Hell.

• These terrorists actually believe that they are doing God’s work in helping “punish” people that disbelieve what they believe.

• The point here is that they are being taught and commanded to “punish” people who disagree with them.

• As a Pastor, I meet many people who disagree with what I believe, even as I write this I know some people will disagree. But that doesn’t mean I’m going to send someone to hurt you because we disagree.

Let me also say that I know that many Muslims do not agree with violent jihadists. However there are many who do, and they justify their actions with the Qur’an. Because according to the book itself, they are commanded to do so.

[8:15] O you who believe, if you encounter the disbelievers who have mobilized against you, do not turn back and flee.

• Here Muslims are taught that if they run into a “disbeliever” don’t walk away, engage them! In the next verse they are warned that if they walk away, God will punish the Muslim, he will go to hell and his destiny will be miserable!

[8:16] Anyone who turns back on that day, except to carry out a battle plan, or to join his group, has incurred wrath from GOD, and his abode is Hell; what a miserable destiny!

[8:60] You shall prepare for them all the power you can muster, and all the equipment you can mobilize, that you may frighten the enemies of GOD, your enemies, as well as others who are not known to you; GOD knows them. Whatever you spend in the cause of GOD will be repaid to you generously, without the least injustice.

• Here they are taught to come after the “disbeliever” with everything they have!

• To instill fear into the hearts of those who don’t agree with them.

SURA chapter 9 (my emphasis added)

[9:5] Once the Sacred Months are past, (and they refuse to make peace) you may kill the idol worshipers when you encounter them, punish them, and resist every move they make. If they repent and observe the Contact Prayers (Salat) and give the obligatory charity (Zakat), you shall let them go. GOD is Forgiver, Most Merciful.

• Here is a direct order to commit violence.

• This is NOT a religion of peace! This is a violent, and aggressive religion, commanded to engage in violence against anyone who does not believe as they do!

[9:29] You shall fight back against those who do not believe in GOD, nor in the Last Day, nor do they prohibit what GOD and His messenger have prohibited, nor do they abide by the religion of truth among those who received the scripture, until they pay the due tax, willingly or unwillingly.

• Again, here is a commandment to “fight” against “disbelievers”.

• How can you say this is a religion of peace?

[9:30] The Jews said, “Ezra is the son of GOD,” while the Christians said, “Jesus is the son of GOD!” These are blasphemies uttered by their mouths. They thus match the blasphemies of those who have disbelieved in the past. GOD condemns them. They have surely deviated.

• As in many other verses in the Qur’an, there is a constant attack against Jews and Christians!

• Christians are seen as “blasphemers” because they claim Jesus is the son of God! Hence, Islam’s justification for killing Christians.

SURA chapter 5 (my emphasis added)

[5:33] The just retribution for those who fight GOD and His messenger, and commit horrendous crimes, is to be killed, or crucified, or to have their hands and feet cut off on alternate sides, or to be banished from the land. This is to humiliate them in this life, then they suffer a far worse retribution in the Hereafter.

• And now that the violence has been justified, it is detailed: kill them, crucify them, and cut their hands & feet off.

• And this is to humiliate people for not believing the same things Islam believes.
Some religion of peace!

And now, I’ll give you my opinion and what I think about the Presidential speech at the NPB.

There’s absolutely no way you can compare Christianity and Islam, in any way, on any level.

Now, let’s for one moment, not judge either religion by extremists who as the President said “hijack” them. But let’s look at the fundamental principles of what both believe.

What does Jesus say?
Love your enemies.

What does the Qur’an say?
Punish by beheading those who don’t believe as you do.

What does Jesus say?
Pray for those who persecute you.

What does the Qur’an say?
Pray so you can persecute others.

What does Jesus say?
Plead & pray for those who are non believers.

What does the Qur’an say?
Crucify and cut the legs and feet of those who are non believers.

What does Jesus say?
Be an ambassador of God’s love to those who don’t know Him. Share the message of the gospel with them and even if they don’t recieve it, continue to love them.

What does the Qur’an say?
Strike the unbeliever above the neck and come against them with everything you have in order to judge them for not believing. And don’t worry when you punish them, it’s their fault!

The bottom line is that you can not compare Christianity and Islam. For our President to even remotely compare the two was something that provoked my spirit to speak what I believe.

Now let me say that I am in no way speaking bad or disrespectfully about our President. My Bible tells me to respect, honor, and pray for those in authority over me. And although I was bothered by what was said, it made me pray for my country, my leaders and the world even more. I love America, and I believe as my father always said that “America, with all its faults, is still the greatest country in the world.”

But I will not stand back and let anyone compare any one to my Savior. Not Muhammad, Buddha, Krishna, or anyone.

Let me make one thing clear:

To the Muslim: Muhammad can’t save you, Muhammad was a sinner just like you and I. He was not and never will be God, God’s son, God’s prophet, or God’s representative. You will never make heaven believing in him or in what he taught.

To the Buddhist: the teachings, laws and principles of Buddha will not save you. You will never make heaven believing in them. They may be nice and decent but they will never justify you before a holy God!

To the Krishna, Hindu, Athiest, Catholic, and every other religion in the world: Your good principles, deeds, charity, education, religion, rules, and demands WILL NEVER MAKE YOU RIGHT WITH GOD, THEY WILL NEVER SAVE YOU OR GET YOU TO HEAVEN.

JESUS CHRIST, THE SON OF GOD AND GOD HIMSELF AND THE BLOOD THAT HE SHED ON CALVARY IS THE ONLY WAY FOR A MAN OR WOMAN TO BE SAVED!!

• “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. John 3:16

THERE ARE NO MULTIPLE WAYS TO MAKE HEAVEN, NO OTHER LOOPHOLES FOR OTHER RELIGIONS, OR OPTIONS FOR OTHER PEOPLE.

• Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. John 14:6

JESUS WAS NOT A PROPHET SENT FROM GOD, A GOOD TEACHER OR A NICE MAN WHO DID GOOD THINGS. HE IS GOD!!

• “Behold, the virgin shall be with child and shall bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which translated means, “God with us.” Matthew 1:23

YOU MAY THINK WE SERVE THE SAME GOD BUT WE DONT. THE ONE TRUE GOD LOVED THE WORLD SO MUCH HE SENT HIS ONE AND ONLY SON, NOT OTHER FORMS OF JESUS LIKE MUHAMMAD OR KRISHNA AS MANY RELIGIONS THINK!

• “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. John 3:16

• But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

• And THERE IS SALVATION IN NO ONE ELSE. For there is NO OTHER NAME under heaven that has been given to men by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12

The word of God is very clear!

JESUS IS GOD!!

JESUS AND JESUS ALONE SAVES!

THERE IS NO OTHER WAY TO BE SAVED!

You may be reading this and may not agree with me. You may think I’m wrong, and may feel totally opposed to what I am saying.

However it is the word of God not mine. This is what the Bible says, this is not my opinion.

You may may not believe what I’ve just written, and that’s ok. God called me to preach the Gospel, & that’s what I’ll do.

One thing for sure is this: I pray you recieve it and surrender your life to Jesus, repent of your sins and recieve Jesus as your Lord and Savior so that you may be born again, and make heaven for yourself.

However, if you choose not to believe, be assured I won’t hunt you down and engage violence upon you.

….I’ll just pray for you and love you. Because after all, that’s exactly how my Savior taught me to treat you.

Expect A Miracle,

To the “Unknown Soldiers”

Yesterday morning my beautiful mama had a major medical procedure done. Because of the importance of privacy for my family, only a few family and friends knew.

As I sat in the surgery waiting room, many things came to mind: how ultimately we have no idea when our day is up, how we are mortal and at some point, life will end, and also how in the end, when all the smoke clears, God is in control.

It was such a relief to have the doctor come in 4 hours later and say, “the procedure went as well as I would have wanted it to, she’s doing well.”

We prayed and thanked the Lord for his faithfulness and goodness to my family, and then it hit me: we had asked people to keep us in prayer for my mama’s surgery, but in reality many of you prayed for my family, as you always do, not knowing how in need we were for your prayers.

So I want to say thank you! To all of you who didn’t know my mama was in surgery today, but who faithfully everyday pray for my family. From the bottom of my heart, “thank you, thank you, a million times thank you!”

You all have no idea how much your prayers helped us today. I literally felt the power of prayer today as my family and I sat in that waiting room and trusted Jesus to take care of her.

So, for all of you that faithfully pray for us, blessings to you and your loved ones. I will never be able to say thank you enough for how you blessed us today! I will eternally be thankful to each and every one of you!

Merry Christmas,

Pastor Jubal García

“…You only have one Father”

image

Though you have many teachers, you only have one father… 1 Corinthians 4:15

Today marks 5 years that my father, Pastor Freddie García was glorified. It almost seems unreal that so many years have passed already, but the calendar doesn’t lie. As I think about him, I look back at so many great memories & experiences that I don’t have enough time, words, and gigabyte space to write about them all.

My father was a very wise and well accomplished man:

He graduated Bible school in 1970

In the same year, he founded Outcry in the Barrio beginning in a 2 room shack and becoming America’s most successful rehabilitation center for addicts that has expanded all over the world.

He served on the Governor’s task force for drug rehabilitation and education.

He was recognized by three United States presidents for his work.

But by far, the one thing that stands out the most to me is: the amazing father he was. The awards, accolades and recognitions were great, but he was Papa to me. He wasn’t Freddie García, or Pastor Freddie. He was just…Papa.

I remember him:

Attending little league baseball games.

Teaching me to tie my shoes and ride a bike.

Walking out of business meetings to go play catch outside.

Taking me backstage to shake hands with Hulk Hogan who was my hero as an 8 year old boy.

Not once in my life telling me “hold on” or “not right now”.

I feel blessed and honored because I had something that many people have never had. A real father. A dad. My Papa. And that’s who I miss when I think of him. I miss how he loved Jesus! I miss him comforting me when as a teenager, a girlfriend broke up with me, I miss him correcting me when I talked back to my mother. (Which was a felony in his book) I miss coming to him with what at the time seemed like life ending problems as a young man, and him placing his hand on my shoulder, looking into my eyes and saying, “son, everything in life can be worked out, don’t worry.” I miss his hugs, his laughter, his smile, his sense of humor. I miss how he adored my mother, and how he was proud to be her husband. I miss hearing his stories and life experiences. I miss his view on life and family. I miss how he talked about Jesus and how much he loved people, especially the drug addict. I miss seeing him study his Bible, and calling me to his bedroom to show me a new revelation God had given him. I miss how he always saw the best in people. I miss hearing his house shoes up and down my hallway. I miss having dinner with him and I miss sitting at his feet to talk about our day. I miss drinking coffee with him and eating breakfast tacos with him. I miss him calling me to his bedroom, sending me to go get him butterfinger candy while saying, “and don’t tell your mom”. I miss going to spurs games with him and I miss laying in his bed as an adult and feeling 5 all over again for just a few minutes. I miss his counsel, and I miss how he never judged me for my wrong and my choices. I miss being able to tell him anything and I miss him teaching me about life. I even miss his correction and him getting after me. I miss him challenging me to get better and I miss hearing him say “I’m proud of you son!” I miss long drives and great conversations. I miss holding his hand and I miss seeing him watch old western movies.

….I just miss my papa.

And on this day, as with every day. I take time to reflect. Not to be sad or depressed about his passing. But to be thankful and grateful to God for letting me have him for 33 years. I have no regrets about my relationship with my Papa, we had a wonderful life. Out of all of my siblings, I was the closest one to him. Maybe because we had so many things in common, and probably because we were both called by God to do the very same work in ministry. And although I miss him everyday, I don’t wallow in sadness like many people. I rejoice because my father is no longer in a wheelchair or on dialysis anymore. I rejoice because one day he will receive his glorified body that will never be sick, hurt, grow old or die. I rejoice because I have the blessed hope that I will see him again, and we will never be apart.

However, he has finished his race and mine has just begun. I still have much life to live and a legacy to uphold. I don’t have time to wallow, because “the night cometh…” and there is so much to be done. I’m excited to carry the torch and run with this vision, and I will die like my father in the trenches of this battle to establish God’s kingdom.

But what excites me more than anything is the opportunity to be able to follow in his footsteps, not in ministry but in the blessing of being a godly husband, a godly father, and the spiritual leader of my home. I don’t need the stage, the crowds or the lights as many do…but more than anything, I look forward to:

Attending little league baseball games.

Teaching my children to tie their shoes and how to ride their bikes.

Walking out of business meetings to go play catch outside.

Taking my kids to shake hands with their childhood heroes.

Not telling my children “hold on” or “not right now”.

I guess I want to be just like him, and measure success not by how successful I am at work but how successful I am at home.

So I want to say, “thank you papa. Thank you for who you were and everything you taught me, not through your words but through your example. Thank you for the legacy of faith you left me, and for the roadmap to life that you imparted to me. You were my father, my best friend, my pastor and my hero, and I will forever love and miss you. My life long prayer is that when all is said and done, my wife will look at me the way mom always looked at you, and that my children will be proud of me as much as I am proud of you! I love you forever!”

An Open Invitation to the Pastors of San Antonio

Dear Pastor,

In 1970, my parents, Freddie and Ninfa García founded Outcry in the Barrio. Their work has seen thousands of people go from men and women hopelessly lost in drugs, alcohol and addiction, to significant contributors of a bright future for our communities.

Our city, San Antonio, is headquarters to what is now a global movement that exists in 20 countries reaching an otherwise neglected demographic. The ministry is hailed as a global influence in the relentless battle restoring “hope and purpose” to thousands of lives through the power of Jesus Christ.

As the “rookie” in the pastoral history of this city, I am honored and blessed to work alongside all of you. I believe you are part of one of the finest pastoral teams ever assembled for this generation. There is no doubt that San Antonio serves as a crucial hub, playing a strategic role in ensuring the Gospel is spread and the Kingdom of God is extended all over the world.

In my brief tenure, as Lead Pastor of Outcry Global & Metanoya Church, I’ve come to appreciate the privilege, honor and sacrifices involved in fulfilling God’s call. This is one of the reasons I would like to extend a personal invitation to you to our International Conference, which this year is entitled “PLANET SHAKERS” based on Acts 17:6. Save the dates, July 21-25, 2014, at the Edgewood Theatre of Performing Arts, 607 S.W. 34th St., 78237.

Be assured that this is not a recruiting event, as I have been well schooled by my father in ministerial ethics. It is not in my heart to take from anyone but to simply help build and strengthen the body of Christ! I am mindful that although we may have doctrinal, logistical, and ministerial differences, our common denominator is our passion to see souls saved!

I want you to know that I am not, and will never be, in competition with any man of God, their ministry or vision. We are not opponents; we are family, people of the same body, serving the same King, Jesus Christ!

I would be honored to meet you, fellowship with you, and most importantly stand alongside you refreshed in the presence of God. This will be a time of encouragement for us all, as my friends Israel Houghton, Russ Taff, Rachel Lampa, Danny Gokey and several others minister throughout the week!

As always, it’s completely free of charge and everyone is cordially welcomed. By all means, contact us at: conference@outcryinthebarrio.org My staff and I stand ready to serve you and your ministry.

In Christ,

Jubal García, Lead Pastor
Outcry in the Barrio/Metanoya Church

Spiritual Growth

ImageThis morning I had a wonderful time with my Metanoya Church family as I spoke on “Spiritual Growth”. I believe that if we are honest with ourselves, all of us have an understanding that we need to grow spiritually. But how does someone grow as a christian? How does someone grow spiritually? There have to be some tangible ways in order to gauge ourselves to know we are genuinely growing…Here are some ways to measure spiritual growth….

1. Do I have an increasing desire and determination to know God and his word?

We should find ourselves longing for a closer relationship with God. We must develop that relationship with Prayer and study of the word of God. Any relationship that is going to grow has to have communication. There has to be a giving of both parties in order for that relationship to be healthy. Have you ever been been in a one sided relationship? If you ever have you know first hand that it is not healthy nor can you truly be happy. Its the same way in your walk with Jesus. God has to know you, but you also have to know God. One of the best ways to know God is through his written word. (The Bible) How much time do you spend in the word daily? Are you hungry for God’s word? Do you have an appetite to hear from God? If not, I want to encourage you to begin to open your Bible and let God speak to you.

2. Do I have a strong desire to separate myself from the things of the world?

Let me clarify something here: I am not talking about becoming some weird hermit that has no contact with the people or the world around you. I am speaking about the secular world system not influencing you to go back to your old ways. We obviously have to be “in the world” for work, school, and ministry, but I am talking about not allowing the “world” to have a grip on you. WE ARE IN THE WORLD BUT WE ARE NOT OF IT. As we grow spiritually, our desire for the things of this world will decrease, while the desire for the things of God will increase.

3. Do I have a growing faith?

I’m going to be honest: Sometimes faith is hard. I know that as a pastor I shouldn’t be saying this, but I am being 100% honest. Sometimes I find it hard to trust God. The crazy thing is, that I have NO REASON to not to trust him. God has always been faithful, but for some reason, I find excuse after excuse not to trust him. My Papa used to always tell me something that I want to share with you: “Son, when it comes to trusting God…play the odds”  – in other words, look at God’s track record: He’s never lied, always kept his promise, always been faithful, and has always come through. So with a history like that, who wouldn’t trust God? So my advice to you is the same thing my Papa told me: “When it comes to trusting God…play the odds.”

4. Do I find it easier to forgive?

Forgiveness is hard sometimes. I know the Bible tells us to forgive, but sometimes that’s easier said than done. It becomes difficult to forgive people who have intentionally hurt us. People who have spoken words with the intention to wound. I have had people who strategically waited until the weakest points in my life to betray me, so I know what many of you feel. However, in spite of all of that, Jesus makes it very clear: ….forgive them. Pray for them. And do good to them. Forgiveness though is a tricky thing: In the human nature, its natural to think: “I can’t forgive them, If I forgive them, I let them go free”, however, forgiveness is not about their freedom, forgiveness is about yours.

My hope & prayer for Metanoya Church and also for you reading this blog is that we would take the challenge and take the steps necessary to grow spiritually. God has so much for you! God created you with a specific purpose, and there are things that God designed you for that ONLY YOU can accomplish! God believes in you, and the kingdom of God needs you! Let’s do this!

Expect a Miracle,

Pastor Jubal

“IBIS AD CRUCEM”

Image

John 19:17-22

The worst kind of death was crucifixion. Even the Romans themselves were terrified of it. Cicero once said that crucifixion was the “most cruel and horrifying death”. Roman citizens were never crucified, only slaves and foreigners who were criminals. The routine of crucifixion was always the same. When the trial was over and the person had been found guilty, the judge would then say “IBIS AD CRUCEM” – meaning: “YOU WILL GO TO THE CROSS”. The person was then taken by four roman soldiers, he was made to carry his own cross, he was always beaten before the actual execution, and most of the time whipped while he was on his way to the place of crucifixion. In Jerusalem, the place of execution was called “The Place of the Skull” or in Hebrew, “Golgotha”. (Calvary is Latin for Place of the Skull – from “Calavario”)

According to Roman law, a criminal had to hang on the cross until he died from hunger, thirst and exposure, this is sometimes lasted for several days, but by Jewish law, the body must be taken and buried by nightfall. In Roman law, the body was just thrown on the ground for the vultures and wild animals to eat. But this would have been illegal under Jewish law. Either way, GOLGOTHA was a place where evil things were done. It was the place where Jesus went to die. The place where a man took my place and suffered because of the things that I did. Jesus, on the cross, became MY SUBSTITUTE. Calvary was the place I was sentenced to, but when the verdict came: “IBIS AD CRUCEM”, Jesus stood up and said, “I WILL GO TO THE CROSS ON HIS BEHALF.”

As you remember that today is GOOD FRIDAY, it is good because of what the death of Jesus brought us. Forgivess, reconciliation with God, and new life. Take some time today and share the gospel with someone about what GOOD FRIDAY really means. And for those who remember this day with saddened emotions, remember: SUNDAYS ON THE WAY!

HAPPY GOOD FRIDAY!
